Of course, the Democrats don't give a fig about the children. What they care about is their political ally, the teachers' unions.

And the teachers' unions don't give a fig about the children either. What they care about is their financial sponsor, the Democrats.

One side says, "We'll give you more money and less work if you'll support us" and the other side says "We'll support you if you give us more money and less work."

It's a match made in heaven for them. For students and parents, not so much.

I'm not opposed to there being a Department of Education, but it really needs to be led by a visionary educator, not by someone who wants to promote ideology and throw support to teacher unions. I feel that we need to explore and develop the potential for online learning and put the best and brightest teachers in the world in front of our kids. There's a lot that can be done, and I wish we were doing it. Besides the issues you raise in your essay above, going to school can be dangerous. You might physically be injured, and get exposed to all sorts of predatory individuals.

Of course for some things, there is no substitute for hands-on experience, and this is where we need to innovate. But throwing education back to the states (especially my state 🙄) will sadly pass on an important opportunity.

Ah, I wasn’t thinking of your state, Gary ☹️, or at least the western half of it. But then I think of the political climate in my state as largely like that in yours, and yet I think that the schools here do a pretty good job. I certainly don’t think they’d be worse off if the DOE were to disappear tomorrow. Good districts will do a good job.
